ABOUT US
Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even
listen, simply wait, be quiet still and solitary. The world will freely
offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy
at your feet.- Franz Kafka
A
table is a powerful symbol, a place where families gather to eat, or where
people convene to make decisions and sort out conflicts. We can also visualize
the table as a place where different aspects of one's "self" meet
as a committee to hash out differences. Some committee perform well when
leadership is effective, whereas others dissolve into chaos when certain
committee members—for example, The Fearful One—become
disruptive or uninvolved.
Our name, Commensa, is derived from Latin, specifically
the prefix com- (with, together, jointly) + mensa (table).
In modern usage, it is said that commensal people eat together
at the same table. Our logo represents a helping hand offering a red apple
as a symbol of health. The five digits allude to the five dimensions of
wellness that provide a template for our work
at Commensa.
