WHAT WE DO

We offer a range of services for individuals, couples, families, and organizations. Our approach to counseling, coaching, teaching, and training is diverse, organized around themes of wellness and mindfulness. This model of self-care is empowering, and can be used by anyone.

Just like good food and company, wellness requires a proper balance of ingredients. Our mission at Commensa is to provide you with the resources to achieve your wellness goals, goals you may define as part of the counsleing experience. Our counseling approach focuses not just on individual problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, conflict, anger), but also on root causes such as our family and workplace relationships.

At Commensa, we encourage and help people to move toward the goal of "total wellness", a multi-dimensional vision of mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. We use a range of methods and tools to help you discover resources you may not be aware of. Our approach is to empower you as quickly as possible to take responsibility for your own wellness program.

COUNSELING FOR SOLUTIONS

We use our broad experience with individuals, couples, and familes to find solutions that work. We employ several counseling models, depending on your needs as a client. For example, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Therapy provide a well-researched "backbone" to address specific problems and enhance wellness. In addition to these counseling "standards", we draw from other disciplines such as Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Gottman Marital Therapy, and Parent Management Training.

In addition to a well-researched model of wellness to guide our counseling strategies and assessments, our methods and tools include mindfulness and ecotherapy.

Wellness

Counseling for wellness recognizes that our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being are interdependent. The goal of wellness counseling, then, is to help you achieve an optimum level of functioning in life by assessing and exploring how "well" you are in several dimensions. Wellness counseling also helps you explore your relationship to the many "systems" you inhabit. For example, you may feel that you belong to family, neighborhood, community, and church. You may also feel a sense of belonging in the workplace, your countrry, or the natural world. In short, your satisfaction with life, your sense of well-being, hinges on the health of your relationships in these many contexts...more.

Mindfulness

One of the core methods for helping you achieve your wellness goals is mindfulness. As used in counseling and coaching, mindfulness is a term that means much more than how one is ordinarily mindful in day-to-day life. Although mindful awareness is strengthened through practice, many people experience positive results almost immediately when they make the decision to just sit and watch in a non-judgmental way...more.

Ecotherapy

Conventional psychotherapy and psychiatry teach that mental health care is largely a human-to-human process that takes place in dyads and groups. More often than not, this process takes place in urban environments such as offices, clinics, and hospitals. In recent years however, there has been a growing awareness of the absence and avoidance of the natural world in the methods of psychiatry, psychology, and psychotherapy. The developing field of ecopsychology and its related practice, ecotherapy, take a more inclusive stance toward wellness, teaching that care for the earth (ecology) and care for ourselves (psychology) are an inseparable whole...more.

ORGANIZATIONS

We offer a dynamic team approach for organizations whose needs include strategic planning, decision support, communication training, team building, conflict resolution, and individual coaching...more.

TRAINING

We also provide group support and/or psychotherapy in several areas, including anger management, self-esteem, wellness, marriage and couples, and others...more.
